We are pleased to welcome international delegates to New Zealand for the 17th IIR–Gustav Lorentzen Conference, hosted at The Pā, University of Waikato in Hamilton. This page is for final bits of information for our delegates in the lead up to the conference and for any updates during the conference. Important updates will be sent to delegates via email.
Help us be more sustainable
Throughout this event, we are trying to make sustainable choices to minimise waste and travel emissions.
We would appreciate your help to achieve this.
The format of the Welcome Reception will be a mihi whakatau (slightly less formal than a pōwhiri). This is an event which follows Māori protocols or tikanga. We expect that aspects of the mihi whakatau will be unfamilar to many of our delegates, such as removing your shoes before you enter the Wharenui. It is our way of showing respect and to welcome you to New Zealand and the GL2026 conference. We ask that you please respect the cultural protocols of this event.
To get a better idea of what to expect, you can watch this video here:
The most up to date version of the programme will always be uploaded to the website. Any late withdrawals or rescheduling will be represented in the online version of the programme.
The proceedings will be provided to delegates with a USB. They will also be made available through the Comet portal. An email will be sent when this is available.
Please upload your sessions as soon as possible to Comet.
The Conference Committee have organised for a bus to bring delegates from the Novotel to the University of Waikato on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. You do not need to be staying at the Novotel to use this free shuttle and we encourage you to use this bus if you are staying in the city centre.
The bus schedule will be posted closer to the conference but you can expect that the bus will arrive approximately 15 minutes before the scheduled start and leave approximately 15 minutes after the scheduled end of each day. The conference bus will not be available on Sunday - please plan your travel accordingly. On Tuesday, the bus will only be catering for those going to the conference dinner.
The Conference Committee have organised bus transport to and from the University to Hobbiton free of charge.
To minimise the amount of signage that would otherwise be thrown away at the end of the event, we have substituted direction signage with videos showing you the way from our main entrances to help you find the Pā.
Our full registrations include a delegate pack. Each delegate pack aimed to include only items that are useful for our delegates. If you do not want any of your items, please give them to the registration desk so that they are not wasted and we can find them a good home.
As part of the delegate pack (full registration), you will have received a travel mug. We encourage you to use this during coffee breaks to minimise waste. There's a sink area in the Pā where these can be rinsed during the day.
